Do you really think that kids and parents should depend on a smart house as much as the characters in the Veldt? In the book, the house that the Characters lived in was so smart that that the children didn't need they're parents any more because the house did every thing for them. In real life if I had a house like this I probably would not need my parents either but I would still have a good relationship with them and not kill them just because they took a privilege away.
Today technology is very good so people are starting to use smart houses more and more. Today you can even call your home ahead of time and it will turn off lights that you accidentaly left on or close and open curtains. Smart houses are controlled by a central circuit board. There are monitors that monitor the house at all times.
